Golden, Yet Concise 4

In the Name of Allah the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Praise be to Allah, as much as He Pleases and as befits His Majesty. We testify that none deserves to be worshipped except Allah and that Muhammad SAW is His servant and Messenger. We ask Allah to bestow His Salutations and Peace upon His Messenger SAW, his household, companions and the entire Ummah as long as winds come before rains and thunder comes after lightening.

Alhamdu-liLlah we have been granted life to witness another session as we go through the precious gems Allah SWA has blessed us with by endowing His servant, Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, with profound knowledge from which we gained more enlightenment about His religion. May Allah have mercy on him and our righteous scholars Aameen.

In our previous session we began with the conditions that must be present in order for a servant's Tawbah (repentance) to be considered complete or accepted. We learnt that there are five conditions and ended at the third condition which was to have absolute regret over the committed sin. In shaa Allah in our current post we shall continue with the remaining conditions.

The fourth condition of Tawbah is for one to have a firm conviction never to return to the sin. We need to pay a very rapt attention to this condition and note that it does not state that one should never return to the sin rather the condition states that one should have a conviction (intention) not to return to the sin. If one’s conviction is true then he has indeed repented even if he happens to fall into the sin again. This does not nullify the previous repentance that he made.

The fifth condition is for the servant to make Tawbah in its time. And with regards to the time of Tawbah we shall have a discussion concerning that. There are two categories of time within which repentance is accepted from a believer. Outside of these two times, any repentance made is not accepted and will be of no benefit to the sinner. There is the General time for repentance and the Specific time for repentance.

As for the General time for repentance, it is until the day the sun will rise from the west. When the sun rises from the west sojourning to the east, the time of repentance will end and any repentance made after this time will not be accepted.

For the specific time for repentance, it is until the soul reaches the collar bone. That is the last stage of a human’s life. The last stage of death. Until the soul reaches there, the Tawbah of a servant will always be accepted by Allah SWA.

So Alhamdu-liLlah we have now, completed the conditions that are necessary for a servant’s Tawbah (repentance) to be forgiven and all his sins, both present and past shall be forgiven. But there arises a question concerning the last condition which is, when the Messenger SAW talked about the soul reaching the collar-bone was he SAW referring to the collar-bone in its essence or he was figuratively referring to someone who has lost hope of staying alive for example, a cancer patient who has six months to live.

In shaa Allah we shall answer that question in our next post. May Allah forgive our sins and grant us Jannah. Whoever reads this post should pause for a moment and make a supplication for me after he/she has made a supplication for our dead brothers and sisters. May Allah ease the affairs of Muslims all over the world. Aameen.

May the Salutations and Peace of Allah be upon His Noble Prophet SAW.

As-salamu alaykum wa Rahmatu-Llah wa Barakatuhu
