Golden, Yet Concise 3
In the name
of Allah, the Entirely Merciful and the Especially Merciful.
The Best of
Praises belong to Allah, the Most Worthy of the best of Praises. We ask Him to
send His Salutations upon His Noble Messenger, Muhammad SAW, his household, his
companions and the entire Ummah till the day when there shall be no shade
except the shade of Allah.
We give
Thanks to Allah for granting us the opportunity to teach and learn about His
religion and also to gain His Favours and Bounties. The Messenger SAW is
reported to have said, “…he who follows a path to seek knowledge, Allah will
make easy for him the path to Jannah. May Allah make easy for us the path to
Jannah. Aameen.
In this
post, with the Help of Allah, we shall look at the conditions that must be
present in order the Tawbah of a servant to be accepted. As Humans we are meant
to err and that is why Allah has made for us a means by which our sins will be
forgiven for us to attain His Paradise. It is very common among Muslims today
especially the youth, the complains of not knowing what to do in order for
Allah to forgive them. Some of these people even go to the extent stopping the act
of seeking forgiveness because they feel they have asked Allah to forgive them
too many times that Allah should be tired of forgiving them Subhana-Llah. Allah
SWA never gets tired. Allah will not give up on you until you yourself gives
up. We should never lose hope in the Mercy of Allah for He forgives all sins.
The first
condition of Tawbah is Sincerity. The reason why the servant should want to
stay away from the sin should be as a result of his fear of Allah SWA. For a
person to repent from a particular sin, it is either he repents with the fear
of Allah, or he repents fearing a slave of Allah (a creature of Allah). When a servant
repents because he fears Allah, this becomes a beneficial Tawbah for him. A
repentance which cleanses the present sin and also past sins. But when the
servant repents because of someone else, let us say his father or friend, this
only removes the present sin which he is repenting from but does not have any
effect on his previous sins. This means that all his previous sins which he had
not made sincere Tawbah for would not be erased. We shall take an example in
shaa Allah.
The first
example is of a person who frequently commits Zina(fornication). This person’s
heart then becomes overwhelmed with the fear of Allah and thus repents from
this grievous sin, may Allah protect us from it Aameen. In this situation, all
his previous shall be forgiven and it will be as though he had never committed Zina
in his life.
The second
example is of the person who keeps committing Zina. He doesn’t shy away from
this evil act. Then he begins to become afraid of a disease that might afflict
him, or he fears for his status or rank in the society and thus stops committing
Zina. This saves him from the deed in his current situation but does not save
him from the effects of his previous sins.
Therefore,
my dear readers, may Allah guide you and me, let us pay great attention to
sincerity whenever we are repenting to Allah SWA.
The second
condition of repentance is for the servant to stay away from the sin. The one
who remains upon a sin and then claims that he is repenting from the sin is
only deceiving himself. Remaining upon the sin nullifies a person’s repentance.
Many times, do we hear about people who when they are in the act of fornication,
cry and feel remorse saying astaghfiru-Llah. They say astaghfiru-Llah whiles they are having illegal sexual intercourse. Such people will not have their
repentance accepted until they stop the act of evil and stay away from it.
There are even people who on their way to commit this evil immerse themselves
in seeking forgiveness and adhkaar. May Allah protect us from such evil
actions.
The third
condition of repentance is to feel remorseful and have absolute regret over the
sin one has committed. Among the signs of regret is that one will hate to
return to the sin one committed. Whenever one remembers the sin committed, one
becomes remorseful and hates that one will ever go back to that sin after Allah
has saved one from it. The one who has repented isn’t the person who when he remembers
the sin he says, “these were interesting days or times,” for such a person is
not regretful over the sins that he used to commit but rather has some
enthusiasm about those actions harboured in his heart.
Alhamdu-liLlah,
we shall bring to an end our reminder for today. May Allah make it beneficial
to us in this world and in the hereafter and may He forgive us our sins. May He
have mercy on our rightly guided scholars who have passed away and may He
safeguard those who are still with us. May He join us with them in the
hereafter. Aameen.
May the
Salutations and Peace of Allah be upon His Noble Prophet SAW.
